Nylon-string classical guitars, mostly Valencia, in sizes from half up to full so a child, a teenager and an adult can each get a guitar that fits. The VC100 and VC200 series are the usual choice for school programs and first lessons, with hybrid thin-neck versions for players coming from steel-string. A Takamine sits at the top of the range. Nylon strings are gentler on new fingers, which is why teachers usually start beginners here.
