Vic Firth and ProMark hickory sticks in 5A and the other common sizes, with wood or nylon tips. Vic Firth's Nova line is the budget pair for students; American Classic is the standard pair. Nylon tips last longer on cymbals and sound brighter; wood tips give a warmer cymbal sound. Buy two pairs so a broken stick doesn't end a rehearsal.
