The Difference Engine emulates three classic eras of delay — analogue, digital and dynamic — and then lets you combine features from each to build delays that belong to none of them.

Analogue models the tape echo era around the RE space echo family, with delay times up to 1250ms, multi-head overlays and genuine tape artefacts including wow and flutter. Digital covers the crisp machines of the 80s: straight and multi-tap delay up to 2500ms, tap tempo, modulation on repeats and a freeze function. Dynamic follows the 90s power delays built around the legendary 2290 — ducked delay up to 2500ms, phase-reversed wrap-around repeats and multi-tap.

It ships loaded with 100 patches, 50 of them built by the players themselves — Tony Iommi, Lari Basilio, Tom Quayle, Martin Miller, Billy Duffy, Alex Hutchings and Vernon Reid among them — plus presets in the style of EVH, Slash and Andy Summers.
